Rangercast Episode 61: Conventionitis

Tober discusses his time at Anime Festival Orlando, where one of the headlining guests was Jeebus himself, Jason David Frank. Tyler, recovering from convention burnout, regales the panel with tales of Otakon and why all of you need to go next year.

We talk about Overdrive's latest episode, One Fine Day.

Chris and Ryland us incredibly off topic as they reminisce about geeking out with Greg Aronowitz at Power Morphicon and we all agree--COME BACK TO THE SHOW GREG, WE MISS YOU. And speaking of Power Morphicon, it's been said we'll know more about the status of a second con
soon. It's expected Disney will become more involved, but is that a good thing?

And in Rangerboard Masterpiece Theatre, Killer shares his elaborately-worded thoughts on Time Force.

And yes, we're moving. This will be the last regular episode posted to Podomatic, though I'll make another notice to put up after this to make sure you guys get the idea. Check us out at our new home at rangercast.libsyn.com! Or just use our feedburner feed off to the side there. See ya on the other side!

Rangercast Episode 60: Rangercast @ Otakon 2007 (Part 2- Freedom)

Saturday and Sunday, let's do this.
2:20- Tyler runs down the Media Blasters panel. Not having viable audio sucks.
3:59- AAA panel rundown and one clip. Yeah, the panel rooms just are not set up for field recording. Somebody asks them if they're KR fans. Hehehe. One of them later mentioned owning a KR suit. Oh snap.
7:28- Tyler speaks with Steve Baird again, asks how that therapy's going.
9:35- Tyler shares a story of the Dealer's Room.
10:11- The legendary Purple Tentacle of Otakon has been unmasked.
11:41- Tyler interviews many Anonymii in the 4chan line. Here we go again.
12:51- Right next to the car going down the street blasting the generic rap track of the moment, Tyler hears another car blasting Hare Hare Yukai. Yep, welcome to Otakon.
13:30- The sounds of the 4chan line. WHOOOOO!
18:54- Trends in Tokusatsu panel
1:11:33- Tyler discusses the AAA press conference. Autographs 3 was not a good room for recording. But it was fun. Tyler took some notes.
1:20:17- Mike recounts his guest encounters over lunch and Otakon's final moments.
1:22:19- Tyler does a rundown of how Otakon went on the whole. Wish you were here. August 8-10, 2008. Be there.

Also, buried within the episode, Tyler gets a clue to the current whereabouts of David Yost, and no, he's not working in a pizza shop.

Check out the Flickr posted in RC58's show notes for all of the photos from the con.

Music used (all from AAA):

Our panel tonight (Tyler, Impy, Mike Dent, Lisa, Katie) tackles Once a Ranger, the 15th anniversary uber-teamup. And at the same time go incredibly off topic. Also, will the new game PR Super Legends be PRDT game-caliber fail or MMPRTM game-caliber epic win?

Next time on Rangercast: AAA, tentacles, and WHOOOOOOOO! on Otakon Part 2!

Rangercast Episode 58: Rangercast @ Otakon 2007 (Part 1- Prelude to a Climax)

<img src="http://rangercast.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1003/0x0_840983.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />You know, I had a whole plan set to make RC58 the Once a Ranger ep. We were going to record it Friday or Saturday night and I'd have it up by the end of the weekend and have Otakon part 1 already ready to go so I could take the week off. Unfortunately, on Friday night, Mother Nature, fate, and the fine people at Comcast got together and decided "No Tyler! No Rangercast for you!" and knocked my cable out. Comcast doesn't feel like getting out to my place to fix it until Wednesday, but that doesn't mean I didn't have a plan B to get something to keep the feed warm. So here, thanks to the power of elbow grease, Borders wi-fi, and sheer force of will, for your listening pleasure, is Part 1 (Thursday and Friday) of Otakon 2007.

I intercept Mike Dent at the airport and after some wrangling we make it down to the always-lovely Baltimore Convention Center for the Otakon's famed pre-game festivities: the pre-reg pickup. We meet up with Gerald (Anime World Order) as he shares in-depth one-syllable insights into the madness. Friday, the fun really starts. I land a brief chat with John Sirabella (Media Blasters) about how KR The First did and how it looks for future toku releases. Then later, we watch AAA rock the house, as Mike and I scream like retards during Climax Jump. And no, no bootleg audio.

Finally, we wrap up the day's fun with the full audio of the Podcaster's Roundtable, featuring yours truly, Mike, Gerald, Dave and Joel (Fast Karate for the Gentleman), Rym and Scott (Geek Nights), and Erin and Noah (Ninja Consultants). Oh yeah, we rocked that panel room.

Check out my pictures <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/9452630@N03/">HERE!</a>

And that picture up there for this episode? That is the Baltimore Convention Center Thursday afternoon, seen from the observation deck at the World Trade Center. Yes ladies and gentlemen, you're looking at the line visible from SPACE.

Rangercast 2007 Promo: &quot;Rangercast is...&quot;

I realized it's been a very long time since I mixed a new promo. I also have all these wonderful PMC clips just sitting around. So I decided to make one. It turned out pretty nice, I think. If you've got a podcast, mix it in. If you don't, I don't know, just play it over and over?

Rangercast Episode 57: The In-Betweener

No real episode discussion this week. Scheduling didn't work out. However, we *do* have a little decompression chat with Tyler, Hayden (cyberblue/PMC staff/director, co-writer, EP of Celestial Fury), Matt (JediMB), and Aaron (Shyranger), who swears he's not invisible. Yeah Shy, whatever.

Tyler's at Otakon in a few days, doing two panels, at least one interview, and in general lots of running around. Once a Ranger premiers next Monday. Something tells me somebody will have his hands full come next Monday.

Rangercast Episode 56: Power Morphicon Part 3 (The Sea of Twanqwiwity and Other Random Musings)

Here it is, as promised. The rest of Saturday, followed by Sunday panels and the closing ceremonies. Enough blabbing from me, just sit back and enjoy.

5:52- Chris comments on Paulie finally arriving.
7:47- Another installment of "Chris Has No Words" (TM), followed by Tyler claiming amnesia for the rest of the night. Memory lapses suck, don't they? ;-)
10:20- Forever Red Panel. (Dan Southworth, Austin St. John, Steve Cardenas, James MacLurcan)
48:00- The I'm Not Red or a Girl Panel aka Unsung Heroes Panel. (Johnny Bosch, Matt Austin, Samuell Benta, Gareth Yuen, Richard Brancatisano, Walter Jones, Paul Schrier, Jason Narvy)
1:05:01- Bulk and Skull, take 2. Hilarity, and inside jokes, ensue
1:44:14- Tyler does a little in-between commentary with Keith Hayward (Henshin Justice)
1:45:49- Excerpts from a presentation from Tony Oliver. He showed us the original callbacks from MMPR (sans Thuy, plus Audri) and the team that didn't quite make it to the pilot, along with the opening scene from the first, second (never seen), and third pilot. He then whipped out some old promos and a behind-the-scenes featurette from Zeo. Then he finished up with the Lost Episode special. Awesome stuff. Though since this is video, I didn't see fit to get the audio from all of it. Sorry. Try youtube.
2:00:44- Due to...stuff...Chris Funaro was unable to do his closing speech. But that doesn't mean he didn't have anything to say. We invited him to record his speech for Rangercast. Enjoy.

Next time on Rangercast: PMC decompression, with special guests Shyranger, JediMB, and PMC staffer Chris Peterson

And yes, that picture IS Matt Austin doing a headstand. A subtle art, that headstand is.

Rangercast Episode 55: Back In The Day (Power Morphicon Part 2)

<img src="http://rangercast.podOmatic.com/mymedia/thumb/1003/0x0_930098.jpg" alt="itunes pic" /><br />A lot of blood, sweat, tears, editing magic, and most of all, megabytes, went into this one. Here I was, expecting to stuff all of Saturday into one show, but nope, not happening. That said, here's *most* of Saturday. Enjoy.

2:46- Tyler again goes to Chris, Jesse, and Ryland for some more expert commentary....er, commentary at least. Chris, co-writer of Celestial Fury, chimes in on how he thought Friday night's premiere went.

4:22- Excerpts of the MMPR panel, "Where It All Began." Featuring: Austin St. John, Jason Narvy, Steve Cardenas, Johnny Yong Bosch, Tony Oliver, and Koichi Sakamoto, with surprise guests Walter Jones and Ed Neil

43:25- Tyler does a quick sanity check/interview with PMC secretary Katy Sellers (Hazydestiny) as she tries to keep it together

44:10- Snippets of the <strike>Bulk and</strike> Skull panel. Paul Schrier was at this point still en route to Los Angeles. Jason Narvy instead regaled us with some wonderful tales.

59:33- Stunts panel. Featuring: Gah, way too many people! Look out for me quizzing Koichi on explosions. And yes, that hip-hop-kido is pretty awesome. And you wanna see the stunt show? Try Youtube.

1:44:30- Brief snippet from the SPD panel. I got more, but...Anywho, Greg discusses how they really planned the SPD ending. Kind of. Omni is James Goldblum. He's watching you...(you finish this sentence, cause I won't)

1:45:47- Producing Power Rangers panel. Featuring: Jackie Marchand, Koichi Sakamoto, Greg Aronowitz, Tony Oliver.

I hope you enjoy this <strike>stalling</strike> taste of the madness that was Power Morphicon.
Rangercast Episode 52: Anime Mid-Atlantic 2007 (Summer Constravanza Act I)

Rangercast visits Anime Mid-Atlantic in Richmond, VA. Fun times ensue. This coverage had to be a bit streamlined by necessity--Tyler's sitting in a trailer in his dad's backyard in Los Angeles, and Power Morphicon is the day after tomorrow. Give him a break.

3:26 Tyler interviews a man who has made a tradition of going otaku fishing (video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1760000848952706978&hl=en)
10:58 Excerpts from the Friday night Swinging Popsicle concert (a little more fun at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6952472356527398771&hl=en)
26:20 Tyler interviews Miguel from Dragon's Den Unlimited (who he bumped into and chatted with on a hotel shuttle ride earlier) about their game Toon-Doku
30:47 Remember those Sentai cosplayers from Katsucon? Most of them and some new ones are back for AMA. Tyler chats with them. Note the genders of the Geki cosplayers by the way.
33:35 Tyler interviews Asu of TenBu Productions. If you're a big toku fan and you live around, say Maryland, Virginia, DC, listen to what he has to say. And prepare to mark your calendars.
38:45 Bits and pieces from the VA panel. Johnny Bosch is asked many questions about PR. Some interesting things to be heard. Slight blooper on our part--the commentary where the Zeo cosplayer is walking in is misplaced, since we don't have audio of that. He did walk in and we do have pics. The audio you hear at that point is really when a dude asks and gets a hug from JYB. He walks away saying "I HUGGED A POWER RANGER!" We apologize for the mistake.
58:57 G Five panel (After the panel they mentioned this thing may be brought to the states by TenBu)

Rangercast Episode 51: The Tao Of Rodd

The panel discusses Man of Mercury (I and II) and Behind the Scenes. Then Chris Funaro puts on his other hat as fan liaison for Power Morphicon. He proceeds to do what a good spokesman does best and say as little as possible.

In the Newsbreak, we divulge a little info about upcoming PR games (that they exist), and mention something that one of Rangercast's own is up to.

In RB Masterpiece Theatre, Lightsaberboy presents a theory about what really makes the Power Coins tick.

No episode next week--Tyler's at Anime Mid-Atlantic. And no episode next-next week either, likely. Power Morphicon. See ya in Los Angeles!

Rangercast Episode 50: Funaro is Pronounced Snuffleupagus

The crew tackles Face to Face for real this time. Hilarity ensues. Regards to Chris Funaro (funaroverse.com, co-conspirator of Scorpion Rain, Papa), who wanted to be part of the show but had to leave shortly after we started recording (his dogs love him too much), though he does show up in the show...somewhere.

Also, as we mentioned, some of our listeners sent in comments and congratulations for our big number 50, and we are happy to play some of them on the show. Big thanks to those of you who sent stuff in.

This show is extra-long just for you. Enjoy!

(No new ep next week--Tyler's visiting Cincinnati and Man of Mercury doesn't premiere for another week.)

Rangercast Episode 49: No Rest For the Weary

Better late than never. Tyler cranks out a quick solo episode, despite the weariness caused by exams.

-Newsbreak: Kikaida 01, PROO on Jetix UK, actor sightings
-Rangercast hits 50 episodes next week. Wow.
-Quick chat about the last few episodes (Lights, Camera, Dax ; Face to Face I and II). Tyler wishes he had somebody to play off.
-Rangerboard Masterpiece Theatre: Mommy, where do Orgs come from?

And I said it in the show, but yep, next episode is our 50th. And we want YOU to help celebrate. So send your comments, congratulations, or condolences in and we'll play them on the show. Hook up your mic and leave us an audio comment on our website. No mic? No problem! Call our comment line (the number is in the show and on our webpage). Thanks!

Tyler, Mike (Dent, ya know, R5 Central), and Other Mike (Renegade Pancake) discuss Follow The Ranger, Jetix marathon silliness, and Tyler and Mike panhandle for trip money.

Also, note the new voicemail number. We recently realized that our old k7 number was deactivated ages ago due to misuse...we were wondering why nobody ever sent us anything. That said...USE IT.

Another thing to note...wow...we're almost to 50 episodes. Yikes, that's scary.

YAY PRODUCTION VALUES!

In this, our first standard episode since I got my computer back, I decided to spice things up with some new features:

-DVD review (because US-licensed tokusatsu is never a bad thing)

And the Quote of the Week rises from its shallow grave as Rangerboard Masterpiece Theater. Enjoy!

If speed-editing were an Olympic sport, I'd be getting the gold. Here it is, the Saturday and Sunday bits from Katsucon. w00t. About damn time.

8:38 A chat with Steve Baird (lessthanthreecomic.com). I would later become his best customer, supplying him with chips and guacamole from Chipotle. The guac would later go uneaten, grow legs, and crawl away.

10:22 Peelander panel

31:27 I bump into IvyDraken

33:45 Cardcaptor Will dares Bruce Kalish to confirm or deny that Will in PROO is based on/named after HIM.

42:40 OxiClean ROCKS!

RC @ Katsucon 13 PROMO

Katsucon rocked. It rocked hard. So hard in fact, so much awesome, that it actually causes Audacity on TU's computers to crash. Therefore, full audio goodness will have to wait a bit until I get my laptop back from CompUSA. To tide you over, I whipped this little guy up. This is but a small taste of what's to come.

Rangercast Episode [beep]: Just a Thought

Yeah, it's 44, but I kind of lost count when I was recording this one away from my computer, which is still in the shop.

Today:
-Sweet Jeebus, the OO theme sucks.
-PR the animated series?
-Busy offseason, eh?

Next week:
Rangercast goes to Katsucon 13! Wish us luck!

Rangercast Episode 43: Weekend Update

Technical difficulties nixed the possibilities of a full length episode over winter break, so here's Tyler pulling out a 14-minute show with his stepdad's computer and a really cheap mic. Topics du jour:
-Gekiranger
-Operation Overdrive
-What's coming down the pipe for RC: Convention season, rip off R5 Central's Year of Heroes stuff
-Quote of the week: Thunder Ranger

We apologize in advance for the beyond crappy audio quality.

Rangercast @ Otakon 2006: Day 3 (Snakes on a Cosplay)

RC does another hour-long show as the madness continues. First, we sit down with Kazuto Nakazawa and talk with him about his career, working on Kill Bill, and why parents suck. Later on, we check in with the crazy Swedes at Little Gamers. Somebody decided to give them a panel it seems. It all wraps up with a visit to the lines for some of the raunchier late-night panels. Don't worry. This episode does not go there.

Rangercast: The Promo

So I was away in the Big Apple over the weekend. Lisa tried to get her brand new laptop working to coordinate a show, but to no avail. So I'm sitting here Monday night, and I realize I need to put *something* up. That, and Otakon's press requirements entail something new every week. I'm already stretching their podcast requirements as it is (30000 hits, 5000 unique visitors? Uhm yeah....).

That said, if you have a podcast of your own and you wanna get us some listeners, just drop this into your show. I put quite a bit of effort into it.

Rangercast Episode 19

-An actor sighting. Yes, it's a very slow week. Wonderful news if you like seeing the Quantum Ranger get his arm chopped off.
-Jetix goes IPTV?
-PR 2007's working title steers us the wrong way. Rangercast takes a tour of Disney's secret marketing bunker.
-Cast bios...because you know you want to know more about us.

My deepest, sincerest apologies to all the monkeys in the world for comparing them to Disney Marketing executives. You know I don't mean it, right?

Opening/Ending- You don't want to know.
Other music used: Twilight Zone theme

We discuss the minute details of an interview Henshin Justice nabbed with Executive Producer Bruce Kalish. Slow news week.

Music:
Ron Wasserman- Go Fly Win
Boots Randolph- Yakety Sax
Tyler Waldman- Mahou Sentai Magiranger (Sorry I couldn't sing out a bit more...parents were sleeping. I promise a better take sometime when I have the chance.)

Katie and Jer couldn't make it tonight, so Mike Dent (of R5 Central fame) dropped by to lend us his voice.

Special thanks to XeroHedgehog, who helped me figure out finally how to cheat HotRecorder into being useful for something.

Due to multiple unrecoverable technical slipups, last night's recording was trashed. The recording was very productive and interesting, as I'm sure you can imagine. Tyler takes a look back at Rangercast's creation, its development, and its future, all while trying hard not to sound like a egotistical moron.

Opening: Zords (short instrumental)- Ron Wasserman
Cameo by Silverback. Yew. Belawng to him.
